Classic Apple Pie with Pear Balsamic Glaze

This recipe elevates the classic apple pie with a flaky, buttery crust and a warm, spiced glaze that complements the sweet-tart apples perfectly.

Ingredients:

Crust:

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 tsp salt

  • 1 cup cold, unsalted butter, cut into small pieces

  • 1/2 cup ice water

Filling:

  • 6-8 large apples

  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar

  • 1/4 cup packed light brown sugar

  • 3 tbsp all-purpose flour

  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon

  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg

  • 1/4 tsp salt

  • 2 tbs unsalted butter, cut into small pieces

  • Glaze:

  • 1/2 cup Twisted Olive Pear Balsamic Vinegar

  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar

  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon

    Directions:

  1. In a large bowl, combine flour and salt. Cut in butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Gradually add ice water, folding with a fork until dough forms. Divide in half, flatten into disks, and wrap in plastic wrap. Refrigerate for at least 30 min.

  2. In a large bowl, combine sliced apples, granulated sugar, brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Toss to coat.

  3. Preheat oven to 425f. Roll out one disk of dough and fit into a 9-inch pie plate. Fill with apple mixture and dot with butter. Roll out the second sik of dough and place over the filling. Crimp edges to seal and cut vents in the top crust.

  4. Bake for 20 minutes, then reduce heat to 375f and bake for another 30-40 min, or until crust is golden brown and filling is bubbly.

  5. While the pie is baking, combine Pear Balsamic Vinegar, sugar, and cinnamon in a small saucepan. Bring to a simmer over medium heat and cook until slightly thickened, about 5-7 min.

  6. Let the pie cool completely before drizzling with the pear balsamic glaze.
